When the sun gives us the first glimpse of light after a long winter, we all have vacations, beaches, and drinks on the mind.

But some of those beverages are more prominent than others.

Do you want to prepare for the summer by knowing the most popular drinks and cocktails? Try adding these five classic summer favorites to your repertoire and memorize the various bartender terms associated with their preparation so you can be whipping them up in no time.

1. Mojitos:

Drinks and cocktails

The mojito is a classic, refreshing drink, and during the summer, everyone’s looking for refreshing tastes.

A traditional mojito calls for:

  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • A quarter wedge from a lime
  • 10 mint leaves
  • 2 ounces of your rum of choice
  • A splash of club soda

Muddle the sugar, leaves, and juice from the wedge in a Collins glass. Add ice, then pour in the rum. Shake well and strain into the original glass. Top with a splash of club soda.

If you want a summer variation, add in some mango flavoring:

  • ½ an ounce of simple syrup
  • A quarter wedge from a lime
  • 4 mint leaves
  • 1 ounce of your rum of choice
  • 1 ounce of mango rum
  • A splash of club soda

Follow similar steps by muddling the mint and mango, squeezing in the lime and adding the rest.

2. Frozen Strawberry Daiquiris :

Summer beverages

The sweet, strawberry taste of a daiquiri is all the rage during the hot months, especially considering it’s a frozen drink.

You’ll need:

  • 2 ounces of frozen strawberries
  • 1 ounce of a light rum of your choice
  • A splash of lime juice
  • 3 teaspoons of sugar

Most restaurants come equipped with blenders capable of blending ice, so many will substitute a strawberry blend for the real strawberries and add a heaping scoop of ice. Toss it all into a blender and let your customers enjoy.

3. Piña Coladas :

Summer Drinks

There are many drinks everyone should know how to make, and a “piña colada” is one of them.

Even if you don’t like pina Coladas (or getting caught in the rain), your customers certainly will. Luckily, they’re easy and quick to make.

Have handy:

  • 1 cup of ice
  • 2 ounces of Coco Reàl
  • 1.5 ounces of a light rum or Malibu Coconut Rum
  • 2 ounces of pineapple juice

Place all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until combined. Pour and serve in a Poco Grande glass.
